Chartiers Center Celebrates Go Green Day

Jun 1, 2018

In honor of Mental Health Awareness month Chartiers Center staff and consumers celebrated GO Green Day! The consumers in Chartiers’ T&SR Program made green pins that they passed out to staff. The green pins highlighted the “I’m Here” message.  I’m here… is a way—for both people living with a mood disorder and those who support—to open up a channel for communication and to say, “I’m here…”
The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) originated the I’m Here campaign and pin. Chartiers’ T&SR group connected with their message and chose to educate others about this campaign. Mood disorders affect millions of people, yet the stigma surrounding it causes barriers to communication and knowledge about mental health conditions. DBSA is hoping for a chain reaction and ongoing communication so that nobody has to feel alone. Explaining the meaning behind the I’m here… safety pin to people in your life helps the whole community move closer to understanding mental health conditions.
Thank you to the T&SR group for beginning the conversation and sharing the pins. What better time than during Mental Health Awareness month!
