On Monday, October 17th, Optum sponsored a “Let’s Give Back to the Community” event at the NASHP Conference in Pittsburgh. From 6-7pm, conference attendees volunteered to back “welcome kits” for the Chartiers’ consumers who are either homeless or find themselves moving from the justice system to a supportive housing environment or consumers who are moving from Chartiers’ Residential Treatment Program to independent living. Whatever their circumstance, the backpacks were packed with needed essentials for anyone starting over. The event was coordinated by Hands on Twin Cities and Optum.
The Optum staff added a twist to the event with a little healthy competition. The team (by state) who packed the most bags would receive a $1,000 donation for a behavioral health center in their state. In under an hour 500 “welcome kits” were packed by a very motivated group. Thank you to all who participated.
Chartiers’ staff have already started passing out the bags and we look forward to being able to help so many needy individuals. Giving back never felt so good.
