Chartiers’ Vesta Team Reaches out to Local Homeless

With the help of Bridgeville Police Department, Chartiers Center’s Homeless Outreach Team (Vesta) were able to canvas the Bridgeville area looking for homeless individuals. One individual, currently living in a tent, was identified and the team was able to provide bus tickets to warming centers and shelters and connect him to resources with Operation Safety Net. He was also given a sack, filled by volunteers, with hand warmers, gloves, scarf, food, water and other items to support him in his current situation.

ORIGINAL STORY

Every year, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires all Continuums of Care to conduct a “Point In Time Count” on the last week of January. Teams of volunteers will canvas specific geographic areas for individuals that are homeless. The information collected can be used to plan local homeless assistance systems, to tailor programs to meet existing needs, and to raise public awareness of homelessness.
Chartiers Center is a member of the Allegheny County Continuum of Care in which we offer various services to homeless individuals. Chartiers Center’s team will be out canvassing the Bridgeville area this Thursday January 31st from 9am to 11am. If you, or anyone you know, is currently staying in a place not meant for habitation, please contact the Director of Homeless Services Stephanie Villella at svillella@chartierscenter.org so that those individuals can be located and provided with resources to assist with housing.
