Chartiers Center is excited to announce that we have officially changed the name of our Training and Social Rehabilitation (T&SR) Program. Let us be the first to introduce you to… Creative Recovery!
You might be wondering, why the name change? While we continue to see much success by the people participating in our T&SR Program, the original name was rather long, and we found many people struggled with getting the name of the program correct. At Chartiers Center, we understand that a name is a powerful piece of identity. It isn’t simply a label – it represents how we perceive ourselves and how we hope other people will perceive us. It was important that a name be chosen that truly encompasses the spirit and intention of the program.

But we can’t take the credit for our new name. A contest was held among the program’s participants to submit new naming ideas. Out of over 40 responses, program supervisor Amy Randal narrowed it down to 10 finalists based on the length of the name and how well it fits the vision of the program. Of the finalists, our Chartiers Center staff voted for their favorite and Creative Recovery,” submitted by Carl M., took first prize, including bragging rights and a $50 Visa gift card!
Carl’s inspiration for the name “Creative Recovery” came from the fact that everyone in the program uses different creative outlets for their expressions while record wall with croppedworking toward the same goal. Practicing creativity is an essential aspect of the program, whether it’s through art, writing, discussion groups, or the quarterly newsletter.
As someone who attends the program four days a week (and would go five if it were open on Fridays!), Carl was thrilled to have his nomination chosen. When theart on wall cropped program first reopened in March 2021, he came 68 days in a row and has only missed five days since then. Talk about dedication! Carl’s favorite things to do when he is there is play games, listen to the lectures and participate in group activities.
A special thank you to each participant who submitted a new name idea and congratulations to Carl M. for winning our contest! We are thrilled to begin referring to the program as Creative Recovery and even more excited to see what the future holds for this program.
